Having exploded onto the scene in the early 00′s, Ashanti‘s “star” status boasted a “super” prefix. Indeed, under the Murder INC umbrella, the sultry stunner served up hit after undeniable hit – leading many to believe she was R&B’s head female force. And for a time, she was.
However, a plethora of problems would then plague her positioning; from the fall of her fellow INC cohorts, to legal and label drama. And, of course, there’s hurricane Beyonce.
Now, almost 4 years after her last try, Ms. Douglas is back – and with a difference. Ditching the politics and overheads of a major label, the 30 year old has gone the independent route for her new album, which is ushered in by lead single ‘The Woman You Love’. How will she fare this go round?

That new song is the Bizness…I think if Ashanti sticks to her R&B/Hip Hop guns that she can easily retake her throne. Ashanti is not pop so she should try to switch over like those other former R&B chics. No doubt her new track is a banger. Ashanti is still top three of R&B.

She needs to come harder than that. I like but don’t love. If she wants to make a lasting impression I suggest she give us some actual written entertainment. Love the album cover too…hope this is an indication of her direction.

@CALVIN well said, took the words rite out of my mouth lol, i love ashanti though shes done it all shes held her own and still til this day s the princess of hip hop and r&b and ya in this era of wack music everyone likes this garbage wack pop music and i like that Ashanti is sticking to her roots and still doing what she started 10 years ago, the new single is indeed a banger, and she will have to make a video quick and just remind everyone out there who she is around the world shes been getting nothing but all positive feedback’s from everyone, radio’s other artist and etc. i hope 2012 is her year she deserves it. She is what you call a (TRUE ARTIST) SHE DOESN’T HAVE TO DO STUPID SHIT TO GET ATTENTION SHES 100% ORIGINAL AND THAT’S WHY I LOVE THIS CHICK AND ALWAYS WILL. That wasn’t an album cover it was a single cover…. and vocally she cannot compete melanie fiona… lastly comparing her vocals to ciara’s….. thats insulting. But I do agree that her music has grown and that she can come back and smash the charts.

I absolutely LOVE Ashanti and a huge supporter….trust me I go hard. I agree with him as well, she has grown vocally and I believe she is a fantastic singer who can be compared to the Beyonce’s and Melanie Fionas…….when he reflects on her lack of vocal ability it simple to say she is trained to sing and not born to sing….see Jasmine Sullivan, Christina A and Lauryn Hill…..remember when Beyonce said she trained, ran and sung to have breathe control (training). I rooting for Ashanti ALWAYS have and ALWAYS will.

Pause. Did you really just compare Ashanti….to a f*cking Ciara? I quit. Lmao. Ashanti could’ve been on top – her record label hindered her from her potential success. The one and only time she was up against Beyonce in 2003, Ashanti’s album knocked Beyonce’s out of the number one spot, and sold more in the first week than Beyonce’s did. So, Beyonce really isn’t a threat. Now she doesn’t have to worry about and legal drama, or any record label refusing to promote her efforts. As the saying goes, we are going to get it straight from the horses’ mouth. Ashanti is here, and she’s coming for blood. That’s all.

I LOVE Ashanti & I cannot wait for her new album! And vocally I think she’s great! I’ve been a huge fan of hers since the first album & can’t wait to see what she comes out with. I hope success can come her way again because she deserves it!

Ashanti is not the best voacalist, but she gives quality music. Her new song is really good and I think if she stick to her R&B and Hip Hop sound she will be just fine. But I hope she don’t slack on the promo cuz she’s going to need alot of it since she’s going the independent route!

How can one compare Ashanti’s vocals to Ciara? Good lawd people, Ashanti isn’t the strongest but she is by far not down there with these pop girls. I’ve seen some videos where she WENT OFF. She did a cover of I Will Always Love You and I thought she did a superb job, could Ciara do that? Na boo. I’m not the hugest Ashanti fan but this is the first time I’ve bought anything of hers, The Woman You Love has been on repeat. I am really excited to see her comeback, I miss hearing this girl on the radio where she belongs!

Well i must say although the game has changed, So has Ashanti, Alot of us been hating on her for all these years not making it easy for her to make a Over the top Comeback.. But imagine if we support her for the R&B Princess that she is.. My idol is beyonce, but i will say that Ashanti brings me something different then beyonce, wHEN IM GOING THRU i can listen to Ashanti to tell me “what type of fool i was” “He cheatin, i saw and i still love him”..
