This is one we didn’t see coming.
Today, it has emerged that seasoned actress Tracee Ellis Ross has left BET ratings winner ‘Reed Between The Lines’, in which she starred as lead character Carla Reed.
In a release published by the LA Times:
Ross in a statement said that “Reed Between the Lines” was a show “I believe in and care about” and that there was a “chance” she might return at some point. Loretha Jones, BET’s president of original programming and news, called Ross “an amazing talent,” adding, “We wish her nothing but the best and hope to work with her again in the future.”
…….
When the second season launches next July, the couple will be separated. Carla, a psychologist, has moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles to take a “dream job” and hopes the family will join her. But Alex, a university professor and stay-at-home dad, doesn’t feel a move is right for the children and chooses to stay in Atlanta.
With the series’ entire premise designed to showcase a successful African American relationship, here’s hoping it finds a unique way to handle Ross’ departure- since it means the said relationship is essentially over as far as viewers go.
Unfamiliar with the show? Peep behind the scenes footage from its last season above….

There are also questions of how they’ll explain how “Carla” left her children behind with Alex when he’s not the biological father of two of them. How that will work out is a mystery to me because it is pretty unrealistic.

Let’s be real, there is only ONE “Cosby Show!!!!!!!!!!” The onscreen chemistry between Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad was (and still is) undeniable!!!!!!!!!!! Malcolm Jamal Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross didn’t have that believable spark that made you want to watch “Reed Between the Lines” each week. The only other show that even came close to “The Cosby Show” was “My Wife & Kids” with Damon Wayans & Tisha Campbell- Martin (now that was a funny show that had that same spark that made The Cosby Show an iconic institution in television history)!!!!!!!!!!!! When I see Tracee, I see “Joan Clayton” & When I see Malcolm, I see Theo Huxtable and/or Malcolm McGee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They should just replace her with another actress. This happens in Hollywood all the time. They did it to Vivian Banks now do it to Carla Reed LOL

Great point about the two children not being his, I had not thought of that. I doubt that Tracee is replaceable. I think the show was sold under the premise that Tracees girlfriends fans would follow her. Although I am sad to see her leave I think that she was wrong for the part. I think that Malcolm is too stiff and their entire situation just does not seem right. The kids do not act likes kids of todays generation and Malcolm acts like an over Lord. Tracee is just kind of in the middle all of the time at work at home and she’s not that relevant. I hate to say it but it seems like the show is over. Maybe they can bring in Jill Marie Jones as the ex-girlfriend who finds out that Malcolm is a single dad and starts helping out. That might get ratings
